“Imaginary Menagerie” is a typographic exhibition produced by Text/Gallery, a nonprofit organization involved in text-based visual arts and culture. The exhibition will be held in London featuring new work from leading and emerging designers and studios in the UK and internationally.
Nineteen designers were given an open brief to explore some of language’s difficult, unpronounceable labyrinths using typography, languages, libraries and archives. Drawing from Italian, Spanish, English, Russian and Chinese, these works take on a variety of forms: from letterpress and silkscreen prints, to light-based artworks and sculpture.
The exhibition will present the artwork of several participants such as: Barnbrook Design (UK) / Nod Young (China) / Polina Pakhomova (UK/Russia) / Sabine Bockting (Netherlands/Germany) / Happycentro (Italy) / Morag Myerscough (UK) / Graham Bignell (UK) / Liza Ramalho/Artur Rebelo (Portugal) / Astrid Stavro (Spain) / Company (UK) / Atelier Dreibholz (UK/Austria) / Catherine Dixon (UK) / Andreas Pohancenik (UK/Austria / Brian Webb (UK) / Mat Dolphin (UK) / Ryan Dixon (UK) / Cartlidge Levene (UK) / Jim Sutherland (UK) / Hand & Eye/Mary Plunkett (UK/Ireland).
